The Metro-North Railroad operates three main lines – the Hudson, Harlem, and New Haven Lines – and two branch lines, the Pascack Valley and Port Jervis Lines. Covering a service area of 385 miles, it connects New York City with suburban communities in New York and Connecticut. It extends as far north as Wassaic in New York and New Canaan, Danbury, and Waterbury in Connecticut, serving a population of approximately 15 million people.

The Hudson Line takes passengers along the eastern shores of the Hudson River, connecting the bustling heart of New York City to serene towns like Croton-Harmon and Poughkeepsie. Its picturesque route is considered one of the most scenic in North America, with the Hudson River and towering cliffs serving as a backdrop.

The Harlem Line travels through the center of Westchester County, offering vital transit connections for bustling communities from White Plains to Southeast. Its service extends all the way north to Wassaic in New York, serving a diverse mix of commuters, from city workers to university students and tourists.

The New Haven Line, the busiest among all lines, runs from Grand Central Terminal in New York City to New Haven, Connecticut. It also includes three branches that veer off the main line, reaching the Connecticut towns of New Canaan, Danbury, and Waterbury. This line alone carries millions of passengers annually.

The two branch lines, the Pascack Valley and Port Jervis Lines, are operated in cooperation with New Jersey Transit. These lines serve suburban communities in New Jersey and lower New York State, extending the reach of the Metro-North service.
